To the Patrons of Littlefield ISD:

I trust you are ready for another successful school year! It is hard to believe that our students will be returning to class on Monday, August 15.  LISD is looking forward to having our students back in the classroom as we begin the 2022-2023 school year. I encourage you to follow what is going on at LISD through our school website: www.lfdisd.org  You will have up-to-date activities for each week along with information regarding the school’s business and financial data. Please take time to utilize this opportunity to learn more about your school.

We had a great convocation (Teachers and Staff back to school meeting) on Monday, August 8 at the JH auditorium. It was great to see everyone back in the saddle as we prepare for day one of the new school year. We are very fortunate to have such a dedicated group of teachers and staff members who truly care about your students and their education. I encourage you to see when your child(ren) have activities at school and make every effort to be in attendance. This will provide you an opportunity to meet your child(ren) teacher and learn what their expectations for the school year will be for your child(ren).

As we begin the new school year, I would like to remind each of you about “school zone safety.”  We all must take precautions in and around school zones, and children must learn how to be safe getting to school, too. Here are a few tips for drivers:  Stay alert, Watch for children who may run between vehicles, Be mindful of children at bus stops, Avoid being on your cellphone, Slow down, Obey school zone speed limit signs and all traffic rules, and Drop off and pick up children in the designated areas.  Thank you in advance for “watching out” for our students as we begin the school year.

To address concerns regarding school safety and security, I am enclosing a portion of an article that was published on June 11, 2022 in the Lamb County Leader News, as follows:  Littlefield Independent School District is committed to the safety of our students and staff. Yet, what more can we do to ensure our students and staff are safe? First of all, we take any and all threats seriously! The police will be contacted. If we find the threat to be credible and locate the source, we will be prosecuting that person or persons to the fullest extent of the law. Secondly, we will be implementing the Guardian Program as we begin the 2022-2023 school year. This program will allow certain personnel to be armed during the day. The identity of these individuals will be unknown and each campus will have personnel who will be armed. There will be signs put around each of our campuses stating the following: “Please be aware that our staff are armed and may use whatever force is necessary to protect our staff and students.” Another item that was addressed this summer was a meeting with our Police Department, Sheriff’s Department, Department of Public Safety, EMS, and Fire Department to go over protocols in the event of a situation at any of our campuses. We conducted an emergency response drill with our staff prior to the beginning of the new school year. Our doors will be locked throughout the school day (District-wide) to ensure the safety of our students and staff. As you can see, we will continue to take every proactive step to make sure our students and staff are safe, period!  We are also in the process of adding more physical security upgrades to our campuses which will provide and enhance further protection to our students and staff.  All classroom door locks were checked and are functioning properly.  We have performed a partial school safety audit and an exterior door audit on our facilities, as required by Texas Education Agency. Any concerns or findings have been addressed.

We encourage you to become an active partner in your child(ren) education.  LISD is committed to providing a solid education and safe environment for each child we serve.  Thank you for allowing us the opportunity to serve you and your child(ren).

Proud to be a WILDCAT!
